We realize that the individual is the most important asset of any society, and we take great pride in helping members of our community realize their goals of attaining a college education. In 2010, we started an essay contest to help students pay for their educational expenses. We had a large number of impressive submissions, and the two inspiring winners were Chinar Fattah and Mohammed Hesen. This year, the prize for the two winners will be $1,000 each.
How to participate in the Essay Contest:
In 600 words or less, answer the question “What does it mean to be a Kurd living in America, and how do you balance both your Kurdish and American identities?”
Eligibility, and Terms and Conditions:
- Essay must be no more than 600 words
- The participant must be a current undergraduate student, or a high school senior applying to a college or university
- Essays will be checked using anti-plagiarism software and returned to us with an originality report
- Deadline for submissions is December 15
- Selections are based on the best written responses to the assigned question
- The names of the two winners will be announced at the festival
- Participants are not required to attend the festival to be chosen
